mothers chrome

24th - 26th February 2012

We have more track time for you with an all day cruise both days or just park up beside the circuit and watch the best cars in the country do what they do best, cruise.

The programme is full on over the weekend with lots happening every day and then some.

Friday 24th Feburary 2012

4.00pm gates open for the spectator’s and the action begins with lots of different class’s racing including the mighty V8s and Sprint Cars. On the night there will be a grand parade of “MOTHERS CHROME” entrant cars. There will also be the option if you the entrant wants to have a speed run we maybe able to accommadate you but only in limited numbers. We have a four hour programme of entertainment that is going to keep your heart pumping and your ear’s full of horsepower.

Saturday 25th Feburary 2012 - Hampton Downs Motorsport Park

Spectator and entrant gates open at 9am. There will be two organized “Cruises”

The 1st starting from “The base” in Hamilton, all cars will depart and travel to Hamptons (approx. 60Ks) arriving at 10am.

The 2nd starting from “Bellagio Café” in Manukau, all cars will depart and travel to Hamptons (approx. 60Ks) arriving at 10.15am

Once our convoys have arrived all entrants cars will be parked inside the international race circuit. Now the fun begins, the circuit becomes alive with the sound of V8s rumbling around the superb race track. A pace car will suppress the speed of high horsepower hot-rods but we are going to cruze like these cars were built too. With a maximum of forty cars on track at any time there will be plenty of room to “stretch the Legs”

Just like last year. As our entrants are on their cruise laps, we will have our controlled burnout lane at “Barrel 51” also known as the dipper. The right hand lane for those happy to cruise and the left for those wanting to “light it up” we will run the stop go man as last year as safety is paramount and this made this part of the event flow well.

This was so popular last year we just have to do it again. Cruise laps for entrants will continue as time allows.

Some of NZ top Drifters are coming to put on a show; this event will be run by Advance Drift Ltd. As an “invitation only” event this will ensure only the best will be attending and they will be competing for prizes and cash. If you want side-ways action these boys will do it. Two days of competition with the final round on Sunday.

Something new is the sprint cars are coming to play, from what they said to me they should be able to do controlled wheel stands. 1000hp and a total weight of 600kgs must help. I wonder if they know we have left and right hand corners, oh well good entertainment aye.

The Power Skid competition

This is where you can’t have enough horsepower. Straight line put your foot down and he or she who has the longest skid takes the title and the trophy. Supercharged vehicles have the edge here but never underestimate what a kiwi can do in their shed. Each vehicle entered for this part of the event will get two runs. The top ten will have their final run on Sunday in a winner takes all competition.

Running simultaneously with the live track is the Burnout and Gymkhana competition. After last year’s successful burnout competition it’s time to up the game and our Gymkhana is going to be full on. A Ken Block style course will be laid out and the free to enter competition (for entrants only) will begin on the purpose built Skid pan. The size of this skid pan is huge, NZ largest by far and at 100m by 50m be prepared for some tyre sheading action. All vehicles will be timed and posted on the big screen so the crowd can see who has the toughest car on the day. The top twenty will compete in the finals held in the Sunday programme.

At 1.30pm the Burnout competition will commence and this is where the real smoke will come from. High end hot-rods and those screaming V8s, enough to make anyone smile. The top ten will have their final run of the competition on the Sunday event. This is another free to enter competition for CHROME entrants. Last year Metalman paid $1000 to the winner and it was fiercely contested a real crowd pleaser. We will have cash and trophies up for grabs again this year for the best of the best.

Inside “Hamptons” the large Tent you will find something else not to be missed

“Moselle’s Panel & Paint Garden Bar”

Moselle’s are going to have a display inside Hamptons of some of their work and as one of their cars won “best of show” at last year Chrome who knows what they have in store for us.

At around 4pm will be the end of a very busy day at Hamptons. But wait, there’s more. Not steak knives but we are all off to Fram Autolite Dragway. We have another full on night for you.

As an entrant you will get to run your car down the drag strip at controlled road speed with your passengers. This will let you answer that question you haven’t thought of yet “What’s at the other end?”

After your first run your vehicle will be parked in the pit area and then another car show begins. There are many good vantage points for viewing the strip from the pits or take the walk up the hill.

After the first hour of entrants cruising down the strip, the big boys will bring their toys out to play.  Some of the top cars NZ has to offer will get their chance to disappear into the distance at light speed. This is shaping up to be a great night.

If you ever wanted to have a go, now’s your chance. As long as your vehicle has passed scrutineering and you have a helmet your good to go. Line your mate up and show him why a CHEV is best. At the end of your run you will receive a time slip (customised by “Mothers Chrome”) with all the information on it to prove what you have known for years. It’s more of a certificate really. Frame it and put it in the living room.

After our entrants have done their dash, it’s back to the full blown competition cars again for their final run. The evening air should give some impressive times and you really don’t want to miss the noise these cars produce.

This wraps up our Saturday part of ‘Mothers Chrome.’ This day will be huge. Bring your camera, I guarantee you won’t remember all that you have seen.

Sunday 26th February

Our two cruises will leave at the same time as the day before from Hamilton and Manukau on their way to Hampton Downs.

Upon arrival all cars will be parked inside the international race circuit.

Today we are lucky to have some top class racing on circuit with muscle cars, Formula 5000 and the Pre65s. Hamptons is the racer’s choice of tracks in NZ and you will see why. The Formula 5000 will pull 175mph along the top straight and still slow down enough for our famous ‘turn one.’

The entrants will be back out there for their cruise laps and the burnout lane will be operating. If you’re sitting on the hill the viewing is brilliant with a commanding outlook over the track and skid pan.

Our Drifting boys will get their final run to see who’s going home with the winnings. These guys can drive and their skill is awesome.

The Power Skid final will be a show not to be missed. We have some very powerful cars that will be attending but doing a power skid is a whole new game.

In the meantime while you’re busy watching the circuit, don’t forget the skid pan has the final of the Gymkhana and also the top ten in the burnout competition.

If you stand between the skid pan and the circuit, it will be like watching tennis (just not boring); you won’t know which way to look. Disclaimer if you do stand there I am not liable for your neck strain.

“Mothers Chrome” is shaping up to be a must do on the petrol head calendar and promise’s to deliver an outstanding weekend.

What I have detailed above only covers the cars moving about, we also so have a large trade show, cheerleaders, live bands and DJs, a fashion show, great food from “Austin’s food by design” and much, much more going on.

The other thing that makes this show great is, “if you sit in one spot, everything is going to drive past you at some stage”

Once you have had a look at some of the best cars in the nation it will be about time to go and see “Moselle’s Panel & Paint Garden Bar”

Our day should finish up at about 4pm on Sunday and then I will see you at Moselle’s.
